Description

Unwilling to rely solely on the allure of their products, major tobacco companies sought to entice Victorian Era consumers by offering trading card premiums such as those present in this 1880s non-sport tobacco card collection of (46). Top brands Allen & Ginter, Duke, Kimball, Mayo and others issued this fascinating mix of generals, monarchs, actresses, Native Americans and more ranging (FR to VG-EX) with generally pleasing obverses. Highlights are: U.S. Grant, Julius Caesar, (2) Lillian Russel, (3) Native Americans and (3) die-cut. More on our website.

While approximately half of the lot shows minimal to moderate traces of adhesive residue and/or paper loss on the reverse, for the most part those affected give evidence of having been meticulously extracted from their former album homes. 90% of the obverses are bright and attractive with excellent original details and nearly all cards remain sturdy. Other subjects are beautiful ladies, nationalist representations, amusing characters, animals and ships.
