With just a hint of sarcasm, Pete Rose summarized his status as he proclaimed: “I’m just like everybody else. I have two arms, two legs and four thousand hits.” During the 1985 campaign that saw him topple Ty Cobb’s standard, Rose brandished this Mizuno “PR1492” (31.5-oz/34”) signature model bat. The uncracked white ash weapon features a glossy black “Smith” finish and shows excellent use. Graded GU 9 by John Taube, PSA/DNA, the war club has ball and cleat marks about the barrel, as well as stitch impressions on the hitting surface and a light coat of pine tar on the handle’s upper portion. A 3-1/2” tape layer has been applied to the handle to enhance the grip. Repeated ball contact has resulted in finish loss on the barrel. Full photo LOA from PSA/DNA.
