Witness the trading card hobby’s coming of age with this better grade original 1939 edition of “The United States Card Collectors Catalog” by J.R. Burdick. Published 6/1/39 this seminal catalog is considered the foundation of card classification. Featuring an image of George Washington on the front cover this 6x9 treasure presents handsomely, meriting a solid (VG+) designation. Clean, relatively flat covers and a fully intact spine harbor (with deference to a pencil notation), eighty-nine problem free, light-cream pages of sport and non-sport card collecting lore certain to fascinate hobby historians. Located at the year of the book is an eight page 8/1/39 “Card Collector’s Bulletin” Vol. II, No. I printed on blue paper. Additionally an undated sheet headed “Gum Card Remainders” is tucked inside the front cover. Reported to be the property of a former employee (the consignor’s father) of Burdick’s longtime associate editor Charles Bray, this vintage, original copy is one of the better surviving examples of Burdick’s passionate and very limited inaugural edition.
