Sold to the Pittsburgh Pirates on January 18, 1947, slugger Hank Greenberg reported to the club’s Miami, Florida spring training site and autographed this baseball less than three weeks later. The mildly toned ONL Frick orb dates specifically to 1947-1948 and is signed by Greenberg on a side panel. Executed in blue ink, Greenberg’s penning projects (“5”) strength with minor ink migration and a small surface abrasion preventing higher assessment. Greenberg has also penned “best regards from” and “Feb 6, 1947.” The panel has been covered with a uniform layer of period shellac and a personalization has long-since been removed. Comes with a sticker from PSA/DNA. Despite having recently missed three primed seasons due to military service, the 36-year-old Greenberg clubbed 13 home runs and drew a league-high 104 walks during his 1947 swan song.
