Description

A fierce competitor in his own right, Pete Rose went up against a rival perhaps just as headstrong and saw his hitting streak end at 44 games. Encapsulated and Graded NM-MT 8 (MK) by PSA, this ticket stub was issued at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium on August 1, 1978 as bearded closer Gene Garber fanned Rose to end a 16-4 Braves triumph and stop Rose’s hitting streak at 44 games. The lone example at its tier with none graded higher, the pristine voucher features printed seating/event details and a “Screaming Brave” logo. On the reverse, a handwritten notation accounts for the “MK” qualifier. Incensed following the end of his streak, Rose told reporters he was “pissed off” and criticized Garber for pitching “like it was the seventh game of the World Series” (which, of course, was the way Rose played every game, himself).
